Worshipping Warriors

By DeeDee Johnson on October 17, 2016

In a world that seems to have gone mad overnight, the institutional Church, as we have known it, has little if any impact.  Much of the Church today is operating according to man-made ideas and paradigms…. filling their time with more programs, more technology, more church growth strategies.  Truth has become watered down to the point of bearing little resemblance to the scriptures themselves.  Political correctness has taken the place of sound doctrine.

And, at the same time, we are facing an escalating conflict with the kingdom of darkness that threatens our children and our very way of life as believers.  Acts 17:26 in the NIRV translation says this:  “From one man (God) made all the people of the world….He decided exactly when they should live and He decided exactly where they should live.”  That means, Beloved, that you and I are living at this time and in this place by the grace and calling of God.  I believe that we are here to make a difference.  And I’m pretty sure you believe that too.  It would be so easy just to do what we’re doing and just forget about the rest!  But we must not do that!  In order for the Church to move in a new direction, change is necessary.  Mindsets have to be altered.  Old patterns must make way for new ones.

I believe God has given to us two powerful keys that we can use  to bring this needed change.  These keys do not operate in the earthly realm, they are spiritual weapons.  These two keys are WORSHIP and PRAYER.  Beloved, the more we worship, the more we change the atmosphere around us.  The more we worship, the more God’s government gains influence over the demonic structures ruling over churches and cities.  The more we worship, the more the enemy’s strongholds begin to loose their power.  Why? Because God is enthroned in the midst of our worship.  Scripture says He in habits our praises.  There is a scientific principle known as DISPLACEMENT.  If you fill a glass full of water, then drop a rock in it, water will be displaced in proportion to the size of the rock.  Displacement is also a spiritual principle.  When the church of the city worships, the powers of darkness over that city are displaced and pushed back.

The second key is prayer…fervent, sustained, Holy Spirit led prayer.  As we move deeper into the end times, the battles are going to become more intense.  We will not have the luxury of sitting on the fence…we will either be taking ground or we will be losing ground…there will be NO STANDING STILL.  For that reason, intercessors must understand who the real enemy is and how he uses fear, discouragement and deception.  Paul says we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers and rulers of darkness.

We are seeing in our world today the rising up of the antichrist system…coldness in the Church, lawlessness, strong deception controlling our governmental leaders.  But God is raising up an army of worshipping warriors who will contend in the heavenly realm and push back the darkness.  When the evil operating over our city is confronted through prayer, God’s presence then has the liberty to replace that demonic presence.  As prayer and worship increases, the darkness decreases.  Changing the atmosphere around us is not a question of power, it is a question of authority.  Through the blood of Jesus, you and I have been given the authority to legislate in the courts of heaven through intercessory prayer.

In 1 Cor. 2, Paul says that God has ordained HIDDEN WISDOM for our glory.  Through prayer, you and I gain access to that hidden wisdom to dismantle thrones of iniquity.  But, perhaps you are thinking “Well that is fine for those who have been called to be intercessors, but that is not my calling.”  In Ephesians 4, we see Paul’s list of those who have a special calling within the Church:  apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.  I don’t see intercessors on the list.  Why?  Because every member of the Body of Christ is called to intercede, not just a few who have a special calling.

God has ordained believing prayer to enable you and me to learn the technique of overcoming.  Paul Billheimer says, “The prayer closet is the arena that produces overcomers.  God will not go over the church’s head to do things without her because that would abort His plan to bring her to full maturity.”  Through believing prayer, the Church holds the balance of power in world affairs and is literally the only force on earth contesting Satan’s total rule.

Beloved, God not only invites us to pray, He exhorts us to pray!  THINK ABOUT THIS:  the authority to implement the will and decisions of God concerning earthly affairs lies solely within the system of believing prayer which God has ordained.  In other words, God has delegated to the Church the authority to enforce His will right here on earth.  If she will not pray, God will not act!  That means, that by our failure to pray, we frustrate the purposes of God.  Yet in spite of our weakness, our failures, our shortcomings, we are, never-the-less, the mightiest force for civilization in the world today.  All of the blessings of peace and prosperity so necessary to a stable society, are the result of the gospel and the presence of the praying Church.

I don’t think it is an exaggeration to say that a Church without consistent, believing prayer is simply operating a religious treadmill!  Beloved, you and I have been given the glorious privilege to partner with God to bring forth His eternal purposes for mankind.  I don’t think there could be a higher calling.

The greatest move of God and the greatest harvest of souls is coming. In Luke 18, Jesus prophesied of a time when God’s people would cry out day and night in prayer to release His end time judgments against evil.  This is the unique calling of the end time Church.  To be an army of worshipping warriors!  Anyone who has been in the military can tell you the incredible amount of planning and preparation that it takes to carry out a successful operation.  Success depends upon the thoroughness of the preparation.  What do you think the chance of success would be if 50% of the soldiers were totally unaware that a war is going on?  That is the condition of the Church!  Only it’s worse than 50%.  I hope you are beginning to get an idea of how important prayer is.

Let me give you a practical example.  During WW2, a young man by the name of Rees Howells was head master of Wales Bible College.  When the war broke out, the prayer meetings at the college became a daily event.  In May of 1940, Hitler’s tanks rolled across France and the Low Countries.  On May 28, Mr. Howells and his students prayed for God to intervene at Dunkirk and save our men.  On that very day, the miracle of Dunkirk took place!  Hundreds of thousands of British and French soldiers were rescued.  Then, in September, the battle shifted to London.  Every evening from 7 to midnight or later, the students and staff met to pray.  Often, there would be whole days of prayer when the whole community would intercede.

Mr. Howells recorded in his diary: September 10:  Our prayer for London is that God will turn the tide now and save life.  September 11:  With the Battle of Britain over London at its fiercest….I believe our prayer will be answered…I am just watching how God will take hold of the enemy.  September 12:  We prayed that London would be defended and that the enemy would fail to break through and God answered prayer.

In his memoirs, Winston Churchill writes about September 15.  He tells how he visited the Operations Room of the R.A.F. that day and watched as the enemy planes poured over and ours went up to meet them, until the moment came when he asked the Air Marshall, “What other reserves have we?”  “There are none” he answered.  Then another five minutes passed and it appeared that the enemy were going home.  The shifting of the discs on the table showed a continuous eastward movement of German bombers and fighters.  The planes had literally turned around.  No new attack appeared.  In another ten minutes, the action was ended!  There seemed no reason why the Luftwaffe should have turned for home, just at the moment when victory was in their grasp.  But we know why.

Beloved, God is looking for those who will answer His call to be Worshipping Warriors.  If Mr. Howells and his students could change the Battle of Britain and the tide of a war, could we not change the battle for Williamsburg or even the battle for our nation?  Indeed, the battle for this nation is raging right now!  Make no mistake, the survival of this nation as ONE NATION UNDER GOD depends upon the outcome of this Presidential Election.
