JHOP Transition

By Ryan McAdams on August 25, 2013

It seems that all over the world and in the Church there is massive change and shifting taking place.  JHOP Williamsburg is no different.  We, too, are currently in the midst of an immense and exciting shift.  The Lord has made it very clear to us that He is calling JHOP Williamsburg to no longer solely be a house of prayer but to expand our vision and become a church.

This has been a on-going process that the Lord has been orchestrating for at least 6 months.  In many ways, this evolution of the vision doesn't change who we are or what we do.  The Lord is saying that we are simply being "repackaged."  We launched as a city-wide ministry two years ago to gather the Body of Christ together in Williamsburg for worship and prayer.  What we have experienced is that, over time, a small covenant community has developed of like-minded people who have a desire to go deep in God and with each other in relationship.  Some have been a part of other local expressions, but most have looked to JHOP as their sole spiritual family.

We are not unique in this metamorphosis.  On a national scale there is a shift among the house of prayer movement into what I would call more of a church planting movement- blending intimacy, prayer, worship, community, and missions.  Even now in the JHOP family of ministries this change is in the process of taking place.

So, JHOP is becoming Agape Mission Church.  Our mandate and assignments from the Lord, along with our vision and values, remain the same.  We will continue building prayer and worship through our weekly prayer sets.  We will continue with our weekly small groups and our evangelistic outreaches to the city and the campus of William and Mary.  Our leadership team will remain the same and is whole-heartedly on board and unified as we respond in obedience to the Lord and what He is saying and doing.  We will also continue with a heart to cooperate and partner with other area churches and ministries to build up the Body of Christ in Williamsburg and to advance God's Kingdom in this place.

What is changing is the way that people can connect to what God is doing in our midst.  This repackaging from the Lord is going to create more clarity for us and those who are interested in joining us.  Our corporate worship service will be held on Saturday nights at 7PM at the Institute for Dance located at 3356 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188 (near the intersection of John Tyler Hwy and Ironbound Road).

We will be launching our first official service on Saturday night, September 14, at 7PM.  Leading up to this opening, we will be having a special "Meet and Greet" at the above location on Saturday, August 31, at 7PM.  This is a time for people to come and hear about the vision of Agape Mission Church and to have their questions answered.  We cordially invite you to come and be a part of this exciting new season!  Bring anyone you think might be interested.

The website is in the process of being changed over and should be done within the next few weeks.

Thank for your continued support and prayers during this time of transition.

Much grace, Ryan McAdams
